In order to accomplish the mission of protecting personal property and saving lives, HCFR has a dedicated public education program in place, led by Kathy Rowell, public education specialist. The purpose of this team is to give community residents, of all ages, the necessary tools they need in helping them make safe choices. In 2010, the public education team touched more than 33,000 Horry County residents while conducting 700 educational programs.
HCFR partners with several groups and agencies throughout the county. Wal-Mart, Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse, DHEC, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, Horry County Council on Aging, Horry County School District, private schools, churches and businesses are among those that request programs and provide referrals.
